What does UV400 mean?
UV400 means the lenses block ultraviolet radiation up to a wavelength of 400 nanometres. That covers both UVA and UVB. Every pair of Shadeclub sunglasses has UV400 lenses.
What is a Cat. 3 lens?
The filter category (0 to 4, under the EN ISO 12312-1 standard) shows how much visible light a lens lets through. A Cat. 3 lens lets through 8 to 18 percent and is made for bright sunlight. You can drive with it in daylight, but not in the dark or at dusk.
Which Shadeclub sunglasses are polarised?
REX and VALENCE have polarised Cat. 3 lenses. Polarised lenses cut glare from water, wet roads and windows. Every product page shows which lens the model has.
Can I drive in Shadeclub sunglasses?
Yes, in daylight. All our sunglasses have Cat. 3 lenses, which are suitable for driving in daylight. Polarised lenses reduce glare on the road, but can make some displays in the car look darker.
Can I wear Shadeclub sunglasses on a ski trip?
Yes, for everything around the skiing: the terrace, the gondola, the chairlift and a winter walk. Cat. 3 lenses are made for bright sunlight, and snow reflects a lot of light. Heading high up onto a glacier? Then Cat. 4 is better. On the slopes themselves ski goggles are safer, because they seal all round and protect better in a fall.
Does my pair come with a case?
Yes. Every pair comes with a flat fold-up case in vegan leather. Empty, it is thin enough for your trouser pocket; with the glasses inside, it protects them in a bag, jacket pocket or glovebox.
How quickly is my order shipped?
Order before 12:00 on a working day (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays) and we ship the same day with PostNL. After 12:00 or at the weekend, we ship on the next working day. Delivery within the Netherlands usually takes 1 to 2 working days, and 2 to 7 working days in the rest of the EU.
What does shipping cost?
Within the Netherlands shipping is free from €35, so always with two pairs. Below that it is €6.50. To other countries in the European Union shipping costs €10.00, and it is free from €60. Outside the EU it is €19.95; any import charges are paid by the recipient. Everything is in our shipping policy.
Can I try them on at home?
Yes. You have a 14-day cooling-off period after delivery, and during that time you may try the glasses on as you would in a shop. Handle them with care: if they have lost value through use, for example scratches on the lenses, we may deduct that.
Can I return my pair?
Yes. Let us know within 14 days of delivery at shadeclubcontact@gmail.com and send the glasses back within 14 days of telling us. Return shipping is at your own cost. We refund the purchase price and the standard shipping costs within 14 days to your original payment method. Glasses you bought at a discount can be returned too. Everything is in our returns policy.
What if my colour is sold out?
Choose the colour on the product page and leave your email address under "Notify me". As soon as it is back, you will be the first to know.
Do I need to become a member to order?
No. Shadeclub is an open club: anyone can order, without an account, subscription or waiting list. The strict part is the collection, not the door.
Are the glasses unisex?
Almost every model is designed as unisex. Choose mainly on size: REX and MONARCH are compact, COLLIN sits in the middle and JOHN is large and robust. Not sure? Try the fit finder.
Do blue light glasses help against tired eyes?
There is no strong evidence for that. A 2023 Cochrane review found that glasses with a blue light filter probably do not reduce eye strain from screen work in the short term. That is why we sell blue light glasses on comfort and shape, not as a medical device.
Where is Shadeclub based?
Shadeclub is based in Volendam, the Netherlands, at Parallelweg 33. You can reach us at shadeclubcontact@gmail.com or +31 6 14899710.
